Fat grafting is one of the hottest topics in plastic surgery today.
From TV, the internet, and magazines, the United States is a buzz about the potential of fat grafting as a natural alternative or compliment to breast implants and facial fillers.
One of the most common questions I receive from my patients is ‘Doctor, can you take fat from here and move it there?’
The procedure of taking fat from one area of your body and using it in another area of your body is called fat grafting. Fat grafting is not new-we’ve been using fat grafting in plastic surgery for years and fat grafting has mixed reviews.
Still, it’s a really promising technology and our Rejuva patients have been overjoyed with the outcome.
Patients are excited about the possibility of taking unwanted fat from one area of the body and using that fat to restore volume in areas of the body that need volume and shape and since it’s your own fat, there is no chance of rejection, unlike implants and other synthetic materials.
To be fair, fat grafting has it’s critics. More studies need to be conducted to answer different aspects of how fat behaves once it’s been transplanted to a new site.
What’s improved and changed fat grafting to make it such a popular procedure and discussion is new technology, experience, and surgical training introduced to vastly improve the way we harvest, process, and deliver fat for optimal results.
